WOMEN AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

Women and Psychotherapy: Psyche and Selfhood

"Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Though the gifts of wildish nature come to us at birth, society's attempt to 'civilize' us into rigid roles has plundered this treasure, and muffled deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. Without Wild Woman, we become overdomesticated, fearful, uncreative, trapped."

Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Facilitated by SJ Buchanan, a BACP registered psychodynamic psychotherapist specialising in women's lived experience, this half-day Summer workshop is specifically designed for female psychotherapy students.

We will explore identity, relationships, and societal expectations through a contemporary psychodynamic lens. Emphasising the skills of immediacy and embodied awareness, it offers a unique opportunity to enrich your therapeutic practice and deepen reflexivity and awareness. Drawing from the insights of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Susie Orbach, and contemporary psychodynamic approaches, we aim for you to leave with valuable professional and experiential insights into womanhood and selfhood.
